KBC Bank Bulgaria and UBB united under the name United Bulgarian Bank (UBB)

On 10th of April 2023, UBB and KBC Bank Bulgaria officially united after the re-organization of KBC Bank Bulgaria EAD, through its merger into United Bulgarian Bank AD, was entered in the Commercial Register. The legal merger is the next step in the integration of the two banks after the Belgian KBC Group acquired the business of Raiffeisen Bank International in Bulgaria in the summer of 2022.

The process of the technical integration of UBB and present KBC Bank Bulgaria is underway. Until its finalization, our branch network, corporate website and the digital channels of the up-to-now KBC Bank Bulgaria will have a special symbol next to UBB logo. At this stage, clients do not need to take any actions and will continue to be serviced as until now. We will inform you about any future changes.

    Frequently asked questions

    What are equities?

Stocks are securities that confer ownership of part of a company’s capital. By buying stocks in a company, you become the owner of a proportional part of that company.
Stocks give investors certain rights, the most important of which are voting, dividend and liquidating dividend rights.
Stocks are traded on exchanges, where market players operate or companies raise funds. There are more than 250 stock exchanges in the world.

    What are exchange-traded funds?

Exchange-traded funds (ETF) are mutual funds traded on stock exchanges as equities. They can be managed passively or actively and usually track the performance of a certain market index or economic sector. They are an opportunity to invest in a certain group of financial instruments at a lower cost compared to buying single instruments.

What are the risks involved in trading such instruments?

Stock investments are generally riskier than investments in other financial instruments such as bonds or certificates. The main risks investors should watch out for are:

    • Credit risk - this is the risk of bankruptcy or insolvency of the issuer. Here it should be noted that shareholders are in last place when it comes to satisfying the claims of the creditors of a bust company. In the event of bankruptcy, the investor may lose all money invested.
    • Market risk - this is the risk that the stock prices will change due to adverse market conditions, poor financial performance of a certain company, poor performance of an entire economic sector, political risk, etc.
    • Currency risk - this is the risk of adverse change in the exchange rate of the currency in which the securities are denominated, if different from the investor’s local currency.

To what extent am I protected as an investor?

Bulgaria operates a Securities Investor Compensation Fund which covers losses resulting from the bankruptcy of an investment inrtermediary of up to 90% of the assets held, but no more than BGN 40,000. Only investors classified as non-professional clients are entitled to compensation from the Fund.

In accordance with current statutory provisions, KBC Bank keeps its clients’ securities separate from its own securities. Depending on the type of security, they are held at Central Depositary AD, Bulgarian National Bank or foreign depositaries.

    What instruments can I trade?

KBC Bank offers trade in a huge variety of financial instruments, including stocks, exchange-traded funds, government securities, corporate bonds, structured products, etc.

What are the fees and commissions charged for the trade of securities?

All fees and commissions are set out in the bank’s tariff, which is available on the KBC Bank website.

What steps should I take to trade securities?

To trade financial instruments through KBC Bank, you must become a customer of the bank and sign an Investment Service Contract.

How do I buy and sell financial instruments?

Our brokers accept orders for financial instruments both by phone or email. Orders can be placed in selected offices of the bank.
